Who is the woman that collects bones?

The story of La Loba written by Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Women Who Run With The Wolves. 

 

"There is an old woman who lives in a hidden place that everyone knows but few have ever seen. As in the fairy tales of Eastern Europe, she seems to wait for lost or wandering people and seekers to come to her place.

They say she lives among the rotten granite slopes in Tarahumara Indian territory. They say she is buried outside Phoenix near a well. She is said to have been seen traveling south to Monte Alban in a burnt-out car with the back window shot out. She is said to stand by the highway near El Paso, or ride shotgun with truckers to Morelia, Mexico, or that she has been sighted walking to market above Oaxaca with strangely formed boughs of firewood on her back. She is called by many names: La Huesera, Bone Woman; La Trapera, The Gatherer; and La Loba, Wolf Woman.

The superstitious call her soul stealer, claiming she weaves a dream catcher to snatch up those who would cross over and cage them in the light of her fire. The sole work of La Loba is the collecting of bones. She is known to collect and preserve especially that which is in danger of being lost to the world. Her cave is filled with the bones of all manner of desert creatures: the deer, the rattlesnake, the crow. But her specialty is said to be wolves.

She creeps and crawls and sifts through the montañas, mountains, and arroyos, dry river beds, looking for wolf bones, and when she has assembled an entire skeleton, when the last bone is in place and the beautiful white sculpture of the creature is laid out before her, she sits by the fire and thinks about what song she will sing.

And when she is sure, she stands over the criatura, raises her arms over it, and sings out. That is when the rib bones and leg bones of the wolf begin to flesh out and the creature becomes furred. La Loba sings some more, and more of the creature comes into being; its tail curls upward, shaggy and strong.

And still La Loba sings so deeply that the floor of the desert shakes, and as she sings, the wolf opens its eyes, leaps up, and runs away down the canyon.

Somewhere in its running, whether by the speed of its running, or by splashing its way into a river, or by way of a ray of sunlight or moonlight hitting it right in the side, the wolf is suddenly transformed into a laughing woman who runs free toward the horizon.

So it is said that if you wander the desert, and it is near sundown, and you are perhaps a little bit lost, and certainly tired, that you are lucky, for La Loba may take a liking to you and show you something — something of the Soul."

I first want to be honest with you. Brutally honest. I had this beautiful Irish retreat planned... and then cancelled it all. Something about it felt off. I couldn't explain it... everything looked perfect. Why change it all?

But I've done this work enough to know how to trust my inner knowing. This change eventually led me to reading Women Who Run With The Wolves, and the chapter you've read above.

The call to not only reclaim my La Loba but gather a group to do it was the strongest sense I've felt in a long time.

La Loba is brave. La Loba is wild. La Loba is intriguing because she takes us where we are taught never to go.

Earlier this year, I had a moment while at the beach, where a strong vision overcame me.

In this vision, I was asked, "why do you trust the universe?"

The answer that came to me was, "because I trust myself."

The journey to owning our feminine power, our sisterhood, our humanity, begins with the collecting of bones.

If you relate to this, I am sure you feel the calling of La Loba as well. The Wild Woman within you, the one who probably feels like an outcast, different, and at times... hidden.

The one who is waiting to gather back her bones.

For many of us, our bones were taken, scattered, and demolished. Whether this was by our choice or taken by others, it is our birthright to reclaim this.

Journey Overview 

 

Our journey and time together in Ireland will start the morning of August 2 in Dublin, where we will primarily focus on sites in three major areas of Ireland: Galway, Meath, and Sligo.

This journey is not a retreat - it is a journey of sisterhood, reclamation, and joy. To find joy in the unknown, the presence of being in a new country, and one with ancient holdings.

Each day we will focus on different spiritual sites and then also integrate into Irish day-to-day life (I am half-Irish and spent 3-4 months there every year growing up).

In the midst of joy, adventure, magic, and the mystical, we will not only reclaim parts of us but find beauty that calls to Ireland.

This journey is unique because I really want it to be with the right souls, those who know this is for them. We will learn from Anthony (listed below) as well for a few days on our journey, but overall, this is for you if you are looking to gain psychic wisdom and guidance from me in person, to venture on a trip where we will mix friendships with learning, and ultimately dance and run into the unknown.

I am so thrilled to welcome you here. I'm Rita. 

I am an Akashic Record Reader, Teacher, and Spiritual Life Coach.

Following a radical spontaneous spiritual awakening in 2017, I left my corporate job to relocate to Asia for 6 months.

While in Asia, my life radically changed and I gained valuable insights that began to shape my  life and eventually all of my  teachings.

Since then, I have worked with thousands of spiritual seekers around the world, helping them connect with the core essence of who they are.

I focus on guiding individuals towards sovereignty, creation, and leadership in their dream lives. I currently offer personalized Akashic Record Readings and Spiritual Coaching, group entrepreneurial mentorship for spiritual entrepreneurs.
